The siesta cancellation in Spain
The government of Spain will cancel the siesta hours in the middle of the day. These few hours were determined to let the agricultural workers relax during the hottest midday time. Spain, however, is no longer the agricultural state, so the siesta is not necessary.
Moreover, this will save people’s time, money and increase their productivity. The working day in Spain is long due to the siesta-break from 2 till 4,30 p.m. usually used to lunch with friends or go shopping. However, the people have no opportunity to go home in the middle of the day as they tend to live away from the downtown. They also come back home late, have dinner, spend time with family and go to bed late which makes the Spaniards the most tired and underslept nation. Siesta also decreases the productivity of the workers who work from 9 till 8, but still do not fulfill the annual plans and tend to break the deadlines. The Guardian says that even if agreed on, the cancellation of siesta will only bring changes for the better.
