Legislator behind the bars resigns but is yet paid
The story of a sadly-known Senator of Michigan gains another turn. The ex-legislator was accused of domestic violence as well as material damage to the extent of $20,000 to the property of his then wife.
Anistia Thomas, his ex-wife, filed a lawsuit against the Senator saying that she found the Senator in bed with another woman. Smith when realized that he was caught, grabbed Thomas’s hand and threw her on the floor trying to punch her in the face meanwhile. Later when she escaped the house, he shot at her car, causing the total damage of $20,000.
Smith was arrested and accused of the crime. However, he did not quit his job, as the court cannot make him do that involuntarily. The debate on his position took a long time; finally, the USA Today claims that he signed a document that ensures he will no longer occupy the position. He will still receive his final pay in April before quitting.
