Spelling helped preventing the theft
Hackers tried to transfer almost $1 billion from a Bangladesh bank system to various banks worldwide. The unidentified hackers broke into the bank’s system and stole the private information. With the help of this information they were able to transfer money to different accounts.
The officials of the bank say that the hackers successfully stole about $80 million in such a way. However, when they entered the credentials for the last time they misspelled the name of the Bank. They wrote “fandation” instead of “foundation”. This misspelling made the Deutsche Bank seek the confirmation of money transfer. The Reuters say that the Deutsche Bank refrained from any comment.
The Bangladesh bank cannot yet answer on how the money was stolen. The bank authorities inform that Bank has billions of dollars on its account with the Fed. The above mentioned account is used for international deals. This incident ranks among the biggest thefts in the history of banking services.
