UK urges EU to exempt the tampons from the taxes
Canada was the first country to start the process of exempting the special hygiene products like tampons or pads from taxes. In most countries of the European Union, these goods are classified as the “luxury products”. So, women in Canada first, and now women in the UK started a campaign against paying extra-money for what is an absolute necessity for a woman every month.
United Kingdom supported the campaigners and decided to reduce or even to cancel the current five-percent tax. Moreover, George Osborne told the Guardian that he wants to push the idea through in other European countries. The reaction of EU is yet not known. As the media explained this move shows that UK is a strong leader in the EU.
As the USA reports only five out of fifty states exempted the hygiene necessities rom the additional tax. The other forty-five would still have to make their own decision. It became known that recently Chicago has voted to abolish the tax. The delegates adopted the amendment unanimously.
