Greece: The migrants living in the fields
After the borders with Macedonia were closed, the migrants who came to Greece hoping to take the Ballan’s route got stuck on the borders. So, Greece is now hosting great number of migrants who try to survive by any means possible.
A small village called Idomeni is now hosting 13,000 migrants instead of 2,000 it was built for. The migrants live in unbearable conditions, but have no other place to go. Some of the locals stated that refugees put tents right on their field. So the farmers claim, they will not be able to harvest this year. Idomeni is a home for less than 150 people, mostly farmers. This is the first time when the village has to take in so many people at once.
However, as the USA Today informs, some of the locals sell goods to the migrants to make their living. The refugees never take anything for free, though, they bargain a lot. Both Greeks and the migrants are looking forward to the final decision of the EU and other major world powers that will determine their future.
