Plants will help to find bombs
Modern methods with use of chemicals, spectrometry, the x-ray radiation, application of nanotechnologies allow to find existence of bombs in different places. Surprisingly, but soon instead of dogs and up-to-date devices experts can use for plant explosive detection.
Developers of Massachusetts Institute of Technology by means of approach of nanobionics build in carbon nanotubes spinach which will force a branchy plant to feel explosive substances. The plant will be able to transfer data on the found bombs on wireless network.
This approach is based on the concept which allows to define aroma of some chemicals which are usually used in bombs. "When one of these chemicals is present at the ground waters available to a plant, the carbon nanotubes introduced in leaves radiate a signal which can be read with the infrared camera. The camera can be attached to the portable personal computer", - developers note.
